MACAW FEATHERS

We stock and sell feathers from the Blue-and-gold, Green-winged and Scarlet Macaw. Their feathers are the most durable parrot feathers and one of the most durable feathers from any bird species - so are ideal for a wide range of uses. All of our Macaw feathers (like every feather we sell) are humanly sourced. The feathers are all naturally shed (moulted) and we receive them only from the reputable bird keepers which have partnered with us.

Blue-and-gold Macaw

The Blue-and-gold Macaw is a large parrot, originating from South America. The smaller subspecies of this Macaw is the fourth largest of all the parrots. The larger subspecies of the Blue-and-gold Macaw is called the 'Bolivian' Blue-and-gold, which has actual blue feathers, unlike the smaller subspecies which has aqua blue feathers. This larger subspecies is on average the third largest of all the parrots, but some specimens are actually as large as the the Green-winged, Buffon's and even the Hyacinth Macaws. 
We stock feathers from both of the Blue-and-gold Macaw subspecies and their main tail feathers can reach around 60cm in length, but more often around 50 - 55cm. Their tail feathers are usually longer than the feathers from some of the other larger Macaws.

Green-winged Macaw

The Green-winged Macaw is equally the second largest of all the parrots. It shares it's second place with the Buffon's (Great Green) Macaw, reaching up to 1750 grams (1.75kg). In majority of birds the Buffon's Macaw is slightly heavier but the Green-winged Macaw is longer. 
The centre tail feathers of the Green-winged Macaw have a marbled effect, containing dark blue and red. Usually their main centre tail feathers are around 50 - 55cm long and in majority are shorter than the same feathers from the Blue-and-gold and Scarlet Macaw.

The Scarlet Macaw is the third largest of all the parrots based on size and weight. Usually larger than a Blue-and-gold Macaw but smaller than the 'Bolivian' Blue-and-gold Macaw subspecies.
​This parrot has beautiful feathers, with the most varied and intense colouring of all the Macaws.

Scarlet Macaw main tail feathers are on average longer than the same feathers from the larger Green-winged Macaw species. The Scarlet Macaw centre tail feathers are mainly red, with some having a bit of blue on the tail's tip and near the quill. It's often that their centre tail feathers well exceed 60cm long.
